Leading a meeting in Russian
Running a professional meeting in Russian requires specific performative phrases for opening, moderating, and closing. At B2 level, you also manage disagreement diplomatically.
Opening a meeting
- Предлагаю начать наше совещание. — I suggest we begin our meeting.
- Позвольте открыть сегодняшнее заседание. — Allow me to open today's session.
- На повестке дня у нас три вопроса. — We have three items on the agenda.
Managing the floor
- Пожалуйста, дайте мне закончить мысль. — Please let me finish my thought.
- Слово предоставляется... — The floor is given to... (formal)
- Вернёмся к основной теме. — Let's return to the main topic.
- Прошу придерживаться регламента. — I ask everyone to keep to the schedule.
Diplomatic disagreement
- Позвольте не согласиться с вами. — Allow me to disagree with you.
- Я понимаю вашу точку зрения, однако... — I understand your point of view, however...
- Это заслуживает дополнительного обсуждения. — This deserves further discussion.
Closing a meeting
- Подведём итоги сегодняшнего совещания. — Let's summarise today's meeting.
- Следующее совещание состоится... — The next meeting will take place...
Tip: The phrase Позвольте + infinitive (Позвольте открыть, Позвольте не согласиться) is the go-to polite formula for formal meetings.

Erros frequentes
Мы обсуждали о проекте на совещании.Мы обсуждали проект на совещании.Обсуждать (to discuss) takes a direct object in the accusative with no preposition. Never add о after it.
Совещание длилось два часа времени.Совещание длилось два часа.Времени (of time) is redundant when the duration два часа is already clear.
Я не соглашаюсь с его мнением о проекте.Я не согласен с его мнением о проекте.To state a current disagreement, use the short-form adjective «не согласен» (not the imperfective verb «не соглашаюсь», which implies a repeated or ongoing process of refusing to agree).
Позвольте мне выступить слово.Позвольте мне выступить. / Дайте мне слово.Выступить means to make a speech — it does not take слово as an object. Either ask for the floor with дать слово or say позвольте выступить.
Голосование было проведено по вопросу.Голосование было проведено по данному вопросу.По вопросу alone is too vague in formal contexts. Specify which question: по данному вопросу (on this particular question).
Протокол совещания подписала все участники.Протокол совещания подписали все участники.Все участники is a plural subject; the verb must agree: подписали (plural past tense), not подписала (feminine singular).
