Home Improvements – Future Tense and Plans
Polish has two future tense forms, depending on the verb's aspect.
Perfective future (simple future for completed actions):
- zrobię (I will do), kupię (I will buy), wymaluję (I will paint)
- Used for planned one-time completed actions
Imperfective future (ongoing/repeated future):
- będę robił(-a) (I will be doing), będę malował(-a) (I will be painting)
- Formed with: będę / będziesz / będzie + infinitive OR past form
Examples:
- W przyszłym miesiącu wymaluję salon. (Next month I will paint the living room. – perfective, one job)
- Będę remontował(-a) dom przez całe lato. (I will be renovating the house all summer. – imperfective, ongoing)
Useful future time expressions:
- w przyszłym tygodniu / miesiącu / roku (next week/month/year)
- za dwa tygodnie (in two weeks)
Expressões
- Planujemy remont łazienki.We are planning a bathroom renovation.
- Chcemy wymienić podłogi.We want to replace the floors.
- Ile to będzie kosztować?How much will that cost?
- Szukamy dobrego wykonawcy.We are looking for a good contractor.
- Prace remontowe potrwają dwa tygodnie.The renovation work will last two weeks.
Erros frequentes
Będę malować ściany jutro.Pomaluję ściany jutro. / Będę malował(-a) ściany jutro.For a completed future action (one coat of paint tomorrow), use the perfective pomaluję. Będę malował(-a) implies an ongoing process.
Remont skończy się za dwa tygodnie temu.Remont skończy się za dwa tygodnie.'Za' already implies future (in X time). Do not add 'temu' (ago) which indicates the past.
Szukamy wykonawca dobrego.Szukamy dobrego wykonawcy.Szukać takes Genitive: wykonawca → wykonawcy. Adjective comes before noun: dobrego wykonawcy.
