Falar dos animais: there are e can

There are... in...

  • There are polar bears in the Arctic. → Há ursos polares no Ártico.
  • There are kangaroos in Australia. → Há cangurus na Austrália.
  • There aren't any wolves in the UK anymore. → Já não há lobos no Reino Unido.

Lembra-te: o teu há nunca muda, mas o inglês escolhe entre there is (singular) e there are (plural).

Plurais que não se comportam

  • wolf → wolves, leaf → leaves, life → lives: o -f passa a -ves.
There are a lot of deer in the park.

Can para as capacidades

  • Eagles can fly at over 150 km/h. → As águias voam a mais de 150 km/h.
  • Dolphins can communicate with each other. → Os golfinhos comunicam entre si.
  • Penguins can't fly, but they can swim very fast.

  • live in herds / packs / flocks → viver em manadas, alcateias, bandos
