At a Dutch market, you'll need quantity words. Use hoeveel to ask about amounts: Hoeveel kost dat? (How much does that cost?), Hoeveel wilt u? (How much do you want?). Dutch uses unique units: een pond = 500 grams (not the English pound). Mag ik een pond kaas? (May I have 500g of cheese?). For ordering: Ik wil graag een kilo appels (I'd like a kilo of apples). Note: no preposition between quantity and product — NOT een kilo van appels. Use een stuk for countable items: Drie stuks alstublieft (Three pieces please). The typical Dutch market phrase is Anders nog iets? (Anything else?).
