Tone and voice in Spanish writing depend on the audience and intention. The formal register uses "usted" and complex structures: Le agradecería que considerara nuestra propuesta (I would be grateful if you would consider our proposal). The informal register uses "tú" and direct sentences: Mira, piénsalo bien (Look, think it over). Written irony in Spanish is subtle: Qué maravilloso que nadie haya leído el informe (How wonderful that nobody read the report).
