# Telling a news story in Korean
Use -(이)라고 하다 (reported speech) to relay what someone said:
- 경찰은 범인을 잡았다고 했어요. → The police said they caught the suspect.
- 목격자는 사고가 저녁에 발생했다고 했어요. → The witness said the accident happened in the evening.
For information of uncertain origin, use -(으)ㄴ/는 것으로 알려지다:
- 그 사건은 내부 갈등으로 인한 것으로 알려졌어요. → The incident is reportedly due to internal conflict.
Use -에 따르면 (according to) for sources:
- 정부 발표에 따르면 상황이 통제되고 있습니다. → According to the government announcement, the situation is under control.
Time markers structure narratives: 처음에 (at first), 그 후에 (after that), 결국 (in the end). These connectors make a story flow naturally in Korean.

Veelgemaakte fouten
경찰은 말했어요 잡았다경찰은 잡았다고 했어요Reported speech uses -(이)라고 하다. The quoted clause must come directly before 라고 했어요.
알려졌어요 그 사건이그 사건이 알려졌어요Korean word order is Subject-Object-Verb. The subject comes first, not after the verb.
사건은 발생됐어요사건이 발생했어요발생하다 is already intransitive — no passive needed. Also prefer 이/가 over 은/는 for new information.
수사 진행이에요수사가 진행 중이에요진행 중 (ongoing / in progress) is the correct phrase, not just 진행이에요.
처음부터 문제 있었어요처음부터 문제가 있었어요Subject 문제 needs the subject particle 이/가: 문제가 있었어요.
