Veelgemaakte fouten

• ✗日本を比べて、私の国は違います。
  ✓日本(にほん)に比(くら)べて、私(わたし)の国(くに)は違(ちが)います。

  The pattern is 〜に比べて with the particle に, not を. に marks the reference point for comparison.

• ✗マナーが厳しい。一方、温かいです。
  ✓マナーが厳(きび)しい一方(いっぽう)で、温(あたた)かさがあります。

  一方で connects directly to the clause (no period). Also use the noun 温かさ (warmth) for describing an abstract quality, not the adjective alone.

• ✗西洋が握手するに対して、日本はお辞儀します。
  ✓西洋(せいよう)では握手(あくしゅ)するのに対(たい)して、日本(にほん)ではお辞儀(じぎ)をします。

  The pattern requires の before に対して: verb+のに対して. Also use では (in/at) not が for locations.

• ✗文化の違いを驚きました。
  ✓文化(ぶんか)の違(ちが)いに驚(おどろ)きました。

  驚く takes the particle に (surprised AT something), not を. The cause of surprise is marked with に.

• ✗日本の習慣を慣れてきました。
  ✓日本(にほん)の習慣(しゅうかん)に慣(な)れてきました。

  慣れる takes the particle に (get used TO something), not を. This is a common particle error for learners.
