The imperative for giving instructions
In Italian, the imperative is used to give DIY and repair instructions. Sequential markers structure the steps.
Imperative forms (2nd pers. sing.)
- -are verbs: parla → Parla! // take a screw → Prendi la vite!
- -ere verbs: prende → Prendi!
- -ire verbs: apri → Apri la scatola!
Instructions with sequential markers
- Prima svita la vite con il cacciavite. (First, unscrew the screw with the screwdriver.)
- Poi rimuovi il pannello. (Then, remove the panel.)
- Quindi controlla i cavi. (Next, check the cables.)
- Infine rimetti tutto a posto. (Finally, put everything back.)
Assicurati di... (Make sure to...)
- Assicurati di spegnere la corrente prima di iniziare.
- Assicurati di usare la scala correttamente.
- Assicurati che il trapano sia carico.
