Spanish academic articles follow a standardized structure: resumen (abstract), introducción, metodología, resultados, and conclusión. Nominalization is key in academic register. Instead of "investigar el tema" (to research the topic), writers use "la investigación del tema" (the research of the topic). Similarly, "analizar los datos" becomes "el análisis de los datos." This transformation makes text more formal and information-dense. When reading, scan the resumen first to identify the hipótesis (hypothesis), metodología (methodology), and hallazgos (findings). Spanish academic vocabulary shares many Latin roots with English, making cognates like "variable," "conclusión," and "hipótesis" easily recognizable. Pay attention to section headings and transition words like "sin embargo" (however) and "por consiguiente" (consequently).
