Verbs for emotional response to music
Russian uses reflexive verbs and impersonal constructions to express how music affects you:
- музыка трогает / задевает — the music touches / affects (you)
- мне стало грустно от этой мелодии — this melody made me feel sad (impersonal)
- меня захлёстывают эмоции — I am overwhelmed by emotions
- музыка навевает воспоминания — the music evokes memories
Describing music with instrumental
- написанный в миноре — written in a minor key

Tip: In Russian, emotional verbs of music-response often take the dative: мне грустно, мне радостно. Practice these impersonal constructions.

Erros frequentes
Мне нравится слушать музыку на живую.Мне нравится слушать музыку вживую.Вживую (live) is one word in Russian, not на живую. The phrase на живую has a completely different meaning (sloppily, hastily).
Я слушал концерт в живом.Я слушал концерт вживую.Вживую is the correct adverb for attending or hearing something live. В живом is not a standard Russian expression.
Музыкант играл на пианино очень чувствительно.Музыкант играл на пианино очень чувственно / с большим чувством.Чувствительный means sensitive to pain or stimuli, not emotionally expressive. Use чувственный or с чувством for expressive, soulful playing.
Эта мелодия напоминает мне о детства.Эта мелодия напоминает мне о детстве.О requires the prepositional case: о детстве, not о детства which is the genitive.
Концерт продолжался три часа времени.Концерт продолжался три часа.Времени (of time) is redundant after три часа — the duration is already fully expressed.
Я очень люблю эту музыкального жанра.Я очень люблю этот музыкальный жанр.Любить takes a direct accusative object: этот жанр (masculine accusative), not этого жанра (genitive).
