Household Tasks – Reflexive Verbs and Frequency
Many Polish household verbs are reflexive (use się) and are often used with frequency adverbs.
Common reflexive household verbs:
- myć się – to wash (oneself)
- ubierać się – to get dressed
- sprzątać (not reflexive) – to clean up
- gotować (not reflexive) – to cook
Frequency adverbs with Instrumental of time:
- codziennie – every day
- co tydzień – every week
- raz w tygodniu – once a week
- rzadko – rarely
- nigdy – never
Pattern: Subject + frequency + verb + object
- Sprzątam mieszkanie raz w tygodniu. (I clean the flat once a week.)
- Codziennie gotuję obiad. (Every day I cook lunch.)

- Muszę posprzątać mieszkanie.I need to clean the flat.
- Czy możesz pomóc mi z praniem?Can you help me with the laundry?
- Dzisiaj moja kolej na zmywanie.Today it is my turn to do the dishes.
- Odkurzam salon co tydzień.I vacuum the living room every week.

Erros frequentes
Muszę posprzątać w mieszkanie.Muszę posprzątać mieszkanie.Sprzątać takes a direct Accusative object. Do not add 'w' before the object.
Gotuję obiad każdy dzień.Gotuję obiad każdego dnia.'Every day' in Polish is codziennie, or każdego dnia (Genitive). 'Każdy dzień' is Nominative and incorrect here.
Ona zmywa się naczynia.Ona zmywa naczynia.Zmywać (to wash dishes) is not reflexive. Remove 'się' when the object is naczynia (dishes).
