- No texto: (Smith, 2021, p. 45) ou Smith (2021) argues that...
- Na bibliografia: Smith, J. (2021). Title of work. Publisher.
MLA (Modern Language Association) — usado em literatura, artes e humanidades:
- No texto: (Smith 45) ou Smith argues that...
- Na bibliografia: Smith, John. Title of Work. Publisher, 2021.
- As Smith (2021) argues, "..." — the implication being that...
- According to recent scholarship (Jones, 2020), the evidence suggests...
- A landmark study conducted by Chen et al. (2019) demonstrated that...
- This view is corroborated by the findings of López and Martin (2022), who...

- As it is cited in the work of Brown... → As Brown demonstrates... / Brown shows that...
A estrutura passiva impessoal é pouco natural.
- Many researchers believe that climate change is real. → A growing body of researchers maintains that...
"Many researchers" é vago. Na escrita académica, usa quantificadores mais precisos.
- This idea comes from Jones et al (2020). → This idea is drawn from Jones et al. (2020).
"Comes from" é demasiado informal. Usa verbos académicos precisos, como "is drawn from" ou "originates in".
