Asking and Giving Directions
Asking where something is
- 请问，地铁站在哪里？— Excuse me, where is the subway station?
- 厕所在哪儿？— Where is the bathroom?
- 最近的超市在哪里？— Where is the nearest supermarket?
Location words
Place location words come AFTER the noun in Chinese:
- 银行的左边 — to the left of the bank
- 超市的对面 — across from the supermarket
- 学校的附近 — near the school
Giving simple directions
- 一直走。— Go straight.
- 在路口左拐。— Turn left at the intersection.
- 在路口右拐。— Turn right at the intersection.
- 走五分钟。— Walk for five minutes.
Asking for distance
- 远不远？— Is it far?
- 很近，走两分钟。— Very close, two minutes' walk.
- 有点远。— A bit far.
Expressões
- 请问，地铁站在哪里？Ask where the subway station is
- 一直走。Tell someone to go straight
- 在路口左拐。Tell someone to turn left at the intersection
- 很近，走两分钟。Say it is very close, two minutes walk
- 在超市的对面。Say it is opposite the supermarket
- 远不远？Ask if something is far
Erros frequentes
在左边银行在银行的左边Noun comes first, then the location word: noun + 的 + location
地铁站在哪里是？地铁站在哪里？No 是 at the end of location questions
左拐在路口在路口左拐The location phrase 在路口 comes first as the context
走直一直走The standard expression for go straight is 一直走
附近在在附近在 goes before location words, not after
