Making a Phone Call
Answering the phone In Chinese, you answer the phone with 喂 (wèi), similar to "hello":
- 喂，你好！— Hello! (on the phone)
Asking for someone
- 请问，王先生在吗？— Excuse me, is Mr. Wang there?
- 我找李明。— I am looking for Li Ming.
When the person is busy
- 他现在不方便接电话。— He cannot take a call right now.
- 我可以回电话吗？— Can I call back?
- 请等一下。— Please wait a moment.
Asking for a number
- 你的手机号码是多少？— What is your mobile number?
Ending the call
- 好的，再见！— Okay, goodbye!
- 我等你回电话。— I will wait for you to call back.

Erros frequentes
我打了一个电话给他我给他打电话The natural order puts 给 before the person: 我给他打电话.
喂，你是谁？请问，你找谁？你是谁 is rude on the phone — use the polite 请问，你找谁？
他是忙他很忙Do not use 是 with adjectives — say 他很忙 or 他现在不方便.
你的电话号是多少你的电话号码是多少The full word is 号码 — do not shorten to 号 in this context.
我要等你打电话回来我等你回电话Use the compound 回电话 (to call back) instead of the wordy form.
