Describing a landscape: Puedo ver... / Parece...
When you are out in nature, you can describe what you see and how things look using two simple structures:
1. Puedo ver... (I can see...)
Use this to point out what is visible around you.
- Puedo ver un río. → I can see a river.
- Puedo ver flores en el prado. → I can see flowers in the meadow.
- Desde aquí puedo ver el lago. → From here I can see the lake.
2. Parece... (It looks... / It seems...)
Use parece + adjective to describe the appearance or feeling of something.
- El agua parece fría. → The water looks cold.
- El sendero parece largo. → The path looks long.
- El cielo parece tranquilo. → The sky looks calm.
Sensory descriptions
You can combine senses to make richer descriptions:
- Se oye + noun → You can hear... → "Se oye el río." (You can hear the river.)
- Se siente + noun → You can feel... → "Se siente la brisa." (You can feel the breeze.)
- Huele a + noun → It smells of... → "Huele a flores." (It smells of flowers.)
Example: "Puedo ver el atardecer. El cielo parece rojo y naranja. Se siente una brisa refrescante." → "I can see the sunset. The sky looks red and orange. You can feel a refreshing breeze."

Veelgemaakte fouten
Puedo ver un río grande.Puedo ver un gran río. / Puedo ver un río grande.Both are actually correct! Grande can go before or after the noun, but before a singular noun it shortens to gran: un gran río.
El sendero parece larga.El sendero parece largo.Sendero is masculine, so the adjective must be masculine too: largo, not larga.
Huele flores.Huele a flores.The expression is huele a + noun. The preposition a is required.
Se oye la brisa fría.Se siente la brisa fría.You feel (sentir) a breeze, you do not hear it. Use se siente for touch sensations.
¡Que paisaje tan bonito!¡Qué paisaje tan bonito!Qué in exclamations always carries an accent mark: qué, not que.
