Crisis communication demands swift, authoritative, and carefully worded messaging. In Russian professional and public-facing communication, specific linguistic strategies are essential for managing perception and trust.

Core communication principles:

1. Acknowledge before explaining: In Russian crisis texts, the pattern is «мы признаём» (we acknowledge) or «нам известно о» (we are aware of) — using these before justifications signals responsibility.

2. Impersonal constructions to depersonalise: «Были допущены ошибки» (Mistakes were made) — the passive-impersonal distances the organisation from blame without outright denial.

3. Future-oriented reassurance: «Мы принимаем все необходимые меры» (We are taking all necessary measures) — present active verbs show agency and proactivity.

4. Hedging with epistemic markers: «По имеющимся данным» (According to available data) and «в настоящее время устанавливается» (currently being established) buy time without dishonesty.

5. Key phrase patterns:

  • «Мы хотим заверить всех заинтересованных лиц...» — We want to assure all stakeholders...
  • «Ситуация находится под контролем» — The situation is under control
  • «Мы воздерживаемся от комментариев до завершения расследования» — We refrain from comment pending completion of the investigation
  • «Приносим искренние извинения всем пострадавшим» — We sincerely apologise to all those affected

Register note: Avoid hedging with «наверное» or «может быть» — use formal epistemic qualifiers like «предположительно» or «по предварительным данным» instead.

    'Мы извиняемся' is colloquial; the formal expression is 'приносить извинения' (to offer apologies).

    'Управляться командой' is ambiguous — the standard crisis formula is 'находиться под контролем' (to be under control).

    'Расследование' governs the genitive directly without 'об' — use 'расследование инцидента', not 'об инциденте'.

    'Reputation' is not 'damaged' (повреждена) in Russian — the correct collocation is 'нанести ущерб репутации' (to cause harm to reputation).

    'Отказываться' (to refuse) has a confrontational connotation; the formal PR register uses 'воздерживаться от комментариев' (to refrain from comment).

    'Обнародовать в прессе' means published via the press; 'для прессы' means made available to the press — the latter is the intended meaning here.
