Negotiation Language in Portuguese

Making Proposals

Use the condicional for polite proposals:

  • Poderíamos considerar... (We could consider...)
  • Seria possível...? (Would it be possible...?)
  • E se fizéssemos...? (What if we did...?) — uses imperfeito do conjuntivo

Expressing Conditions

Se + conjuntivo for hypothetical conditions:

  • Se me dessem um desconto, eu aceitaria. (If you gave me a discount, I would accept.)
  • Se as condições melhorassem, poderíamos avançar. (If the conditions improved, we could move forward.)

Agreeing and Disagreeing Diplomatically

  • Concordo em parte, mas... (I partly agree, but...)
  • Compreendo a sua posição, no entanto... (I understand your position, however...)
  • Estou disposto a ceder neste ponto. (I am willing to concede on this point.)

Tip: Portuguese negotiation style values politeness. Always use você form and conditional tense for proposals.
