Literary Polish draws on archaic forms for elevated effect. The vocative case is used more freely: O, Polsko moja! (O, my Poland!). Old spellings and forms appear: jeno (only), wszak (after all), zaiste (verily). Inversions create rhetorical emphasis: Wielka to chwila (This is a great moment). Nominal style with abstract nouns characterizes formal prose: wielkosc, dostojenstwo, prawdziwoscia. These devices are essential for literary essays, ceremonial speeches, and religious texts.
