Buying a train ticket

To buy a ticket in Italian, you can use the polite formula: Vorrei un biglietto per + destination

Ticket types:

Complete booking dialogue pattern:

1. Vorrei un biglietto per Roma. → I'd like a ticket to Rome. 2. Solo andata o andata e ritorno? → One-way or return? 3. Andata e ritorno, per favore. → Return, please. 4. Prima o seconda classe? → First or second class? 5. Seconda classe. → Second class. 6. Sono quindici euro. → That's fifteen euros.

Validating your ticket:

In Italy, you must convalidare (validate) paper tickets before boarding:

Devo convalidare il biglietto? → Do I need to validate the ticket?
Dov'è la macchinetta per convalidare? → Where is the validation machine?

Electronic tickets purchased online do not need validation.
