International Negotiations in Hindi

Hindi is one of India's official languages and is increasingly used in international diplomacy. At the C1 level, you need to master the formal register and strategic language used in negotiations.

Formal register for diplomacy:

Use आप (āp) exclusively — never तुम (tum) or तू (tū) in diplomatic contexts
Formal verb endings: कीजिए (kījiye) instead of करो (karo): कृपया इस प्रस्ताव पर विचार कीजिए (kṛpayā is prastāv par vichār kījiye — Please consider this proposal)

Hedging and softening demands:

शायद हम... (shāyad ham... — perhaps we could...) softens a direct demand
क्या यह संभव होगा कि... (kyā yah sambhav hogā ki... — would it be possible that...)
हमारी इच्छा है कि... (hamārī icchā hai ki... — it is our wish that...)

हमारी इच्छा है कि दोनों पक्ष एक द्विपक्षीय समझौते पर सहमत हों।
(It is our wish that both parties agree on a bilateral accord.)

Making and countering proposals:

हम यह प्रस्ताव रखना चाहेंगे कि... (ham yah prastāv rakhnā chāheṅge ki... — We would like to put forward the proposal that...)
इन शर्तों पर हमें आपत्ति है (in shartoṅ par hameṅ āpatti hai — We object to these terms)
आइए एक मध्य मार्ग खोजें (āiye ek madhya mārg khojeṅ — Let us find a middle path)

Uitdrukkingen

आइए बातचीत की मेज़ पर आएँLet us come to the negotiating table
हम इस पर सहमत हो सकते हैंWe can agree on this point
यह हमारी अंतिम शर्त हैThis is our final condition
दोनों पक्षों के हित मेंIn the interest of both parties
