Rhetorical Structures for Presentations
Effective Hindi presentations use specific discourse markers to guide the audience.
Opening the presentation:
- आज मैं आपके सामने [विषय] पर प्रस्तुति रखूँगा। — Today I will present to you on [topic].
- सबसे पहले मैं इस विषय का परिचय देना चाहूँगा। — First, I would like to introduce this topic.
Signposting / transitions:
- पहले बात करते हैं… — First, let us talk about…
- अब हम अगले बिंदु पर आते हैं। — Now we move on to the next point.
- इसके अलावा / इसके साथ-साथ — In addition / alongside this
- दूसरे शब्दों में — In other words
- जैसा कि आप देख सकते हैं — As you can see
Giving examples:
- उदाहरण के तौर पर / उदाहरण के लिए — For example
- मान लीजिए कि… — Let us suppose that…
Concluding:
- संक्षेप में कहें तो… — In brief / To summarise…
- निष्कर्ष के रूप में… — In conclusion…
- क्या आपके कोई प्रश्न हैं? — Do you have any questions?
Use formal आप register throughout. Avoid colloquial filler words like तो, बस, यार.
Uitdrukkingen
- आज मैं जलवायु परिवर्तन पर बोलूँगा।Today I will present to you on climate change.
- अब हम अगले बिंदु पर आते हैं।Now we move on to the next point.
- उदाहरण के लिए, भारत में…For example, in India…
- संक्षेप में, हमारा निष्कर्ष यह है कि…In brief, our conclusion is that…
- क्या आपके कोई प्रश्न हैं?Do you have any questions?
Veelgemaakte fouten
तो, अब बात करते हैं अगले पॉइंट पर।अब हम अगले बिंदु पर आते हैं।Avoid the filler तो and the informal loan word पॉइंट. Use formal transitional phrases with बिंदु.
उदाहरण के लिए कि भारत में…उदाहरण के लिए, भारत में…उदाहरण के लिए is already a complete phrase. Do not add कि after it.
संक्षेप में, हम कह सकते हैं।संक्षेप में कहें तो, हमारा निष्कर्ष यह है कि…The conclusion needs a complete statement. संक्षेप में alone without content leaves the sentence unfinished.
