In French, expressing your opinion uses specific structures that always take the indicative mood (not the subjunctive).
The three main verbs for giving opinions are:
- Je pense que + indicative: Je pense que c'est une bonne idée. (I think it's a good idea.)
- Je crois que + indicative: Je crois qu'il a raison. (I believe he's right.)
- Je trouve que + indicative: Je trouve que ce film est excellent. (I find this movie is excellent.)
Other useful opinion expressions:
- À mon avis — In my opinion: À mon avis, il faut agir maintenant.
- Selon moi — According to me: Selon moi, c'est trop cher.
- J'estime que — I consider that: J'estime que nous devons changer.
Important: In the negative form, je ne pense pas que and je ne crois pas que take the subjunctive: Je ne pense pas qu'il ait raison.
