Debating politely in Spanish requires knowing how to concede a point before counter-arguing. Here are the key structures:
Conceding:
- Entiendo tu punto, pero... (I understand your point, but...)
- Tienes razón en que... (You are right that...)
- Tengo que reconocer que... (I have to acknowledge that...)
Counter-arguing:
- Sin embargo, creo que... (However, I believe that...)
- Aun así, pienso que... (Even so, I think that...)
Entiendo tu punto, pero creo que hay otras opciones.
(I understand your point, but I believe there are other options.)
Tengo que reconocer que es difícil, sin embargo, no es imposible.
(I have to acknowledge it's difficult; however, it's not impossible.)
This technique of conceding then refuting makes your argument more convincing and shows respect for the other person.
