Adjectives and "Ser"
In Portuguese, adjectives agree in gender and number with the noun they describe:
- alto / alta → tall (m/f)
- bonito / bonita → handsome / beautiful (m/f)
Use ser (not estar) for permanent physical characteristics:
💬 Example: "Ele é alto." → "He is tall."
💬 Example: "Ela é bonita." → "She is beautiful."
Describing Hair and Eyes
- Ele tem cabelo louro. → "He has blond hair."
- Ela tem olhos castanhos. → "She has brown eyes."
Use ter (to have) when describing specific features like hair and eyes. Use ser for general characteristics.
Common hair colors: louro (blond), castanho (brown), preto (black), ruivo (red) Common eye colors: castanhos (brown), azuis (blue), verdes (green)
