The Conditional and Formal Future in Administrative Procedures

Italian administrative communications and official forms use very formal structures. At B2 level, it is essential to recognize and produce them.

Qualora + congiuntivo — In the event that / Should

Qualora is a formal conjunction equivalent to "in the event that" or "should". It introduces a condition with the congiuntivo.

Qualora necessitasse ulteriori informazioni, siamo a Sua disposizione. → Should you need further information, we are at your disposal.

Qualora la domanda risultasse incompleta, verrà rigettata. → In the event that the application proves incomplete, it will be rejected.

Si prega di — Please / You are kindly requested to

A formula widely used in official communications to introduce an instruction.

Si prega di allegare la documentazione richiesta. → Please attach the required documentation.

Si prega di presentarsi all'ambasciata entro 30 giorni. → Please present yourself at the embassy within 30 days.

The future tense of polite instruction

In official forms, the future tense is used to express an instruction or requirement.

Il richiedente dovrà fornire uno sponsor idoneo. → The applicant will need to provide an eligible guarantor.

Il rinnovo del permesso di soggiorno dovrà essere richiesto prima della scadenza. → Renewal of the residence permit must be requested before expiry.

In allegato troverà il modulo da compilare. → Please find the form to be filled in attached.

You don't fare a visa: you richiedere (apply for) or ottenere (obtain) it.

In formal register, prefer tra over fra and quanto prima over subito.
