Countries and Nationalities
In German, most country names have no article, but some do:
- Deutschland — Germany (no article)
- die Schweiz — Switzerland (with article)
- die Türkei — Turkey (with article)
Ich komme aus Deutschland. — I come from Germany.
Ich komme aus der Schweiz. — I come from Switzerland.
The Verb "kommen" (to come)
- ich komme — I come
- du kommst — you come
- er/sie kommt — he/she comes
Woher kommst du? — Where do you come from?
Ich komme aus Frankreich. — I come from France.
Saying What Language You Speak
Use Ich spreche + language (lowercase):
- Ich spreche deutsch. — I speak German.
- Ich spreche englisch und französisch. — I speak English and French.
