Colors and Styles in Chinese
Colors as adjectives
In Chinese, colors directly modify nouns using 的:
- 红色的裙子 — red skirt
- 蓝色的上衣 — blue top
- 黑色的鞋子 — black shoes
You can also drop 色 in informal speech:
红的 (red one), 蓝的 (blue one)
Asking about color
- 有什么颜色？— What colors do you have?
- 你喜欢什么颜色？— What color do you like?
- 有没有蓝色的？— Do you have it in blue?
Describing style
- 这个款式很好看。— This style looks great.
- 太花了。— Too flashy.
- 我喜欢简单的款式。— I like simple styles.
Complimenting
- 这件衣服很时髦！— This outfit is very fashionable!
- 这个颜色很适合你。— This color suits you very well.
Expressões
- 你喜欢什么颜色？Ask what color someone likes
- 有没有红色的？Ask if they have something in red
- 这个款式很好看。Compliment a style or design
- 这个颜色很适合你。Say that a color suits someone well
- 太花了。Say something is too flashy or showy
- 我喜欢简单的款式。Say you prefer simple styles
Erros frequentes
红裙子红色的裙子At A1 level add 色的 to properly link a color to the noun
什么颜色你喜欢？你喜欢什么颜色？Subject comes first, then the question word
这个颜色适合很你这个颜色很适合你The adverb 很 goes before the verb 适合, not after
有红的色吗？有没有红色的？Use 有没有 for availability questions; 色 comes before 的
太花太花了Exclamatory 太…了 requires 了 at the end
