Days and Months in Chinese
Days of the week
Chinese days follow a simple pattern: 星期 (xīngqī = week) + number 1–6, then 天 for Sunday.
- 星期一 (xīngqīyī) — Monday
- 星期二 (xīngqī'èr) — Tuesday
- 星期三 (xīngqīsān) — Wednesday
- 星期四 (xīngqīsì) — Thursday
- 星期五 (xīngqīwǔ) — Friday
- 星期六 (xīngqīliù) — Saturday
- 星期天 (xīngqītiān) — Sunday
Note: Sunday can also be 星期日 (xīngqīrì).
Asking the day
- 今天星期几？— What day is today?
- 今天星期三。— Today is Wednesday.
- 明天 (míngtiān) = tomorrow, 昨天 (zuótiān) = yesterday
Months
Months use numbers + 月 (yuè):
- 一月 January, 二月 February … 十二月 December
Asking the date
- 今天几月几号？— What is today's date?
- 今天三月五号。— Today is March 5th.
- 号 (hào) is used for the day of the month.
Expressões
- 今天星期几？Ask what day of the week it is
- 今天几月几号？Ask what the date is today
- 下个星期Refer to next week
- 上个星期Refer to last week
- 这个周末Refer to this weekend
- 我的生日是五月二十号。State your birthday date
Erros frequentes
星期七星期天Sunday is 星期天 or 星期日, not 星期七
三月的五号三月五号No 的 between month and day number
今天是星期几？今天星期几？Drop 是 in day/date questions — 是 is not used here
五号三月三月五号In Chinese, month always comes before day
上个月上个星期上个月 means last month; for last week use 上个星期
