Making and responding to invitations
- Queres vir? — Do you want to come?
- Claro! / Com certeza! — Of course! / Absolutely!
- Não posso, desculpa. — I can't, sorry.
- Talvez, vou ver. — Maybe, I'll see.
Indirect object pronouns (me, te, lhe)
These pronouns replace the person receiving the action:
- me — to me: "Ela deu-me um presente." — She gave me a gift.
- te — to you: "Vou ligar-te amanhã." — I'll call you tomorrow.
- lhe — to him/her/you (formal): "Dei-lhe o convite." — I gave him/her the invitation.
Example: "Queres vir à minha festa? Vou enviar-te o convite!"
In European Portuguese, pronouns attach after the verb with a hyphen in affirmative sentences.
