How to ask
- Desculpe, onde fica...? → Excuse me, where is...?
- Como chego a...? → How do I get to...?
- É longe daqui? → Is it far from here?
- Pode ajudar-me? → Can you help me?
Giving directions
- Vá em frente. — Go straight.
- Vire à esquerda. — Turn left.
- Vire à direita. — Turn right.
- Na primeira rua. — At the first street.
- Na segunda rua. — At the second street.
- No fim da rua. — At the end of the street.
- Ao lado de... — Next to...
- Em frente de... — In front of...
- Atrás de... — Behind...
- Entre... e... — Between... and...
"Ficar" for locations
Use ficar (not ser or estar) to say where places are:
- O banco fica na rua principal. → The bank is on the main street.
- A farmácia fica perto daqui. → The pharmacy is nearby.
Tip: Start with "Desculpe" (excuse me) when asking a stranger for directions. It is more polite.
