"Ter" for Pets
Use ter (to have) to talk about having pets:
- Eu tenho um cão. → "I have a dog."
- Tu tens um gato? → "Do you have a cat?"
- Ele não tem animais. → "He doesn't have any pets."
💬 Example: "Tenho dois gatos e um cão." → "I have two cats and a dog."
Indefinite Articles (um, uma)
- um → a (masculine): um cão, um gato
- uma → a (feminine): uma gata, uma cadela
💬 Example: "Eu tenho um pássaro." → "I have a bird."
Note: The word cão (dog) is European Portuguese. In Brazil, cachorro is more common. Both are understood everywhere.
