Impromptu Speaking in Polish
Impromptu speaking (mówienie spontaniczne) requires a toolkit of frameworks and filler strategies.
The PREP framework (adapted for Polish):
- P — Punkt (Point): state your main point immediately
- R — Racja (Reason): give the main reason
- E — Przykład (Example): illustrate with a concrete example
- P — Podsumowanie (Summary): restate the point
Buying time naturally in Polish:
- To interesujące pytanie... (That's an interesting question...)
- Pozwolę sobie chwilę zastanowić... (Allow me a moment to think...)
- Jeśli dobrze rozumiem pytanie,... (If I understand the question correctly,...)
Polish filler words to avoid:
- Too much: no, eee, jakby, znaczy się
- Better alternatives: pause silently, or use mianowicie (namely), otóż (well, you see)
Advanced speakers use the pause (cisza) deliberately — a 2-second pause signals confidence, not confusion.
