Persuasive Structures in Italian Advertising

Italian advertising relies heavily on linguistic persuasion. Understanding these structures helps you both decode manipulation and express yourself more convincingly.

Persuasive Structures

Ads often use imperative forms combined with emphatic superlatives: "Scegli il migliore, scegli il più autentico!" The superlativo assoluto (-issimo) appears constantly: freschissimo, leggerissimo, buonissimo. These emphatic superlatives go beyond mere comparison — they create an absolute, unquestionable quality.

The Language of Desire

Italian advertising masterfully creates desiderio (desire) through aspirational language. Words like esclusivo, irresistibile, and unico are combined with strutture persuasive that position the consumer as someone special: "Perché tu lo vali" (Because you're worth it). The testimonial — a celebrity endorsing the product — adds credibility while the messaggio subliminale works beneath conscious awareness.

Critical Reading

At C1 level, you should be able to identify when a campagna uses emotional innesco (triggers) rather than factual claims, recognizing how marchio identity is constructed through language.
