The Art of Questioning in Hindi

Mastering the art of questioning in Hindi goes beyond basic क्या (kyā — what), कैसे (kaise — how), and क्यों (kyoṅ — why). At C1 level, you should craft questions that probe, challenge, and invite deeper reflection.

Types of advanced questions:

• Rhetorical questions using भला (bhalā) for emphasis: भला कोई ऐसा कैसे सोच सकता है? (bhalā koī aisā kaise soch saktā hai? — How could anyone think that way?)
• Socratic probing with आखिर (ākhir — after all): आखिर इसका प्रमाण क्या है? (ākhir iskā pramāṇ kyā hai? — What is the evidence for this, after all?)
• Indirect questions using कि (ki) clauses: मुझे बताइए कि आप ऐसा क्यों मानते हैं (mujhe batāiye ki āp aisā kyoṅ mānte haiṅ — Tell me why you believe so)

Softening questions:

• Add ज़रा (zarā — just/a bit): ज़रा बताइए कि… (zarā batāiye ki... — Just tell me...)
• Use क्या आप बता सकते हैं (kyā āp batā sakte haiṅ — Could you tell me) instead of direct बताइए (batāiye — tell me)
