Nuancing Speech in Hindi
Hindi has powerful tools to add nuance. The conjunctions हालाँकि (although) and जबकि (whereas) create contrast, while फिर भी (nevertheless) concedes a point before asserting another.
Contrast:
- हालाँकि वह थका हुआ था, फिर भी उसने काम पूरा किया। (Although he was tired, he still finished the work.)
- जबकि दिल्ली में बारिश हो रही थी, मुंबई में धूप थी। (Whereas it was raining in Delhi, Mumbai had sunshine.)
Concession:
- बावजूद इसके कि उसने मेहनत की, वह असफल रहा। (Despite having worked hard, he failed.)
Degree qualifiers: Use कुछ हद तक (to some extent) or काफी हद तक (to a great extent) to avoid absolute statements:
- यह समस्या कुछ हद तक हमारी गलती है। (This problem is, to some extent, our fault.)
Formal written Hindi often uses यद्यपि...तथापि (although...nevertheless) — a Sanskritized pair used in journalism and official documents.

फिर भी भीफिर भीभी is already embedded in फिर भी — do not double it
जबकि दोनों सही हैं।जबकि दोनों सही हैं, फिर भी...जबकि clauses need a main clause with a clear contrast to be meaningful
