Writing Professional Emails: Formal Register
Formal email opening patterns:
- 尊敬的王经理：(zūnjìng de Wáng jīnglǐ:) — Dear Manager Wang:
- 您好，我是… (nín hǎo, wǒ shì…) — Hello, I am…
报告型 (informing) vs 请求型 (requesting):
- Informing: 特此通知，会议时间改为下午三点。(tèc ǐ tōngzhī, huìyì shíjiān gǎi wéi xiàwǔ sān diǎn) — This is to inform you that the meeting time has been changed to 3 PM.
- Requesting: 麻烦您帮我确认一下以下信息。(máfan nín bāng wǒ quèrèn yīxià yǐxià xìnxī) — Could you please help me confirm the following information?
Standard closing formulas:
- 期待您的回复。(qīdài nín de huífù) — Looking forward to your reply.
- 如有问题，请随时联系我。(rú yǒu wèntí, qǐng suíshí liánxì wǒ) — If you have any questions, please contact me at any time.
- 此致敬礼。(cǐ zhì jìng lǐ) — Yours sincerely.

我写了你一封信。我给你写了一封信。In Mandarin, indirect objects require the preposition 给 (to/for) and must appear before the direct object. The double-object construction from some dialects is non-standard in formal writing.
请回复我的邮件越快越好。请尽快回复我的邮件。越快越好 means "the faster the better" and is a fixed comparative pattern. Use 尽快 (as soon as possible) for direct requests.
我要告诉你一个重要的事。我要告诉你一件重要的事。事 (matter/affair) is a bound measure noun counted with 件, not 个. 一件事 is the correct measure word pairing.
