Daily Routine Verbs

Reflexive verbs (end in -ся/-сь) — common in daily routines:

  • просыпаться — to wake up
  • вставать — to get up
  • ложиться спать — to go to bed

Key conjugations (я / ты / он/она): вставать: встаю / встаёшь / встаёт ложиться: ложусь / ложишься / ложится

Time expressions:

  • утром — in the morning
  • днём — in the afternoon
  • вечером — in the evening
  • ночью — at night

Example sentence: Я встаю утром, завтракаю и иду на работу. (I get up in the morning, have breakfast, and go to work.)

Expressions

  • Я обычно встаю в семь часов.I usually get up at seven o'clock.
  • По утрам я пью кофе.In the mornings I drink coffee.
  • После работы я иду домой.After work I go home.
  • Я ложусь спать в одиннадцать.I go to bed at eleven.
  • Каждый день я принимаю душ.Every day I take a shower.
  • Я завтракаю дома.I have breakfast at home.
  • Вечером мы смотрим телевизор.In the evening we watch TV.

Common mistakes

  • Я встаю в утром
    Я встаю утром

    утром is an adverb meaning 'in the morning' — no preposition needed

  • Я ложу спать
    Я ложусь спать

    ложиться is reflexive — always add -сь: ложусь, not ложу

  • Каждый день я завтрак
    Каждый день я завтракаю

    завтракать is a verb — conjugate it: завтракаю (I have breakfast)

  • Я иду в работу
    Я иду на работу

    Use на работу (to work), not в работу

  • Вечер я смотрю телевизор
    Вечером я смотрю телевизор

    Use the adverb вечером (in the evening), not вечер

  • Я просыпаюсь рано утра
    Я просыпаюсь рано утром

    утром is the correct adverbial form, not утра
