Entrepreneurship in Japanese
Discussing hypothetical business scenarios requires advanced conditional patterns.
Hypothetical: としたら
- としたら — "if we suppose that": *起業するとしたら、まず市場調査が必要だ。* (If we were to start a business, market research would be needed first.)
Even If: としても
- としても — "even if": *失敗するとしても、挑戦する価値はある。* (Even if we fail, it is worth trying.)
Regardless: にしても
- にしても — "regardless of / even considering": *どんな事業にしても、リスクはつきものだ。* (Regardless of the business, risk is inevitable.)
Even If (emphatic): たとえ~ても
- たとえ~ても — "even if (emphasizing hypothetical)": *たとえ資金が足りなくても、工夫すれば何とかなる。* (Even if funds are insufficient, with ingenuity we can manage.)
Expressions
- としたらTo introduce a hypothetical scenario
- としてもTo say even if (concessive)
- にしてもTo say regardless of the case
- たとえ~てもTo emphasize even if hypothetically
- リスクを取る価値があるTo say it is worth taking the risk
- 資金調達に成功するTo say succeed in fundraising
Common mistakes
起業したとしたら。起業するとしたら。としたら uses dictionary form for hypothetical future, not past tense.
失敗するとしたも。失敗するとしても。The correct form is としても, not としたも.
どんな事業でしても。どんな事業にしても。The correct particle is に (にしても), not で.
たとえ資金が足りないても。たとえ資金が足りなくても。て-form of ない is なくて, so ても becomes なくても.
リスクが取る。リスクを取る。リスクを取る takes を for the object, not が.
