El tercer condicional expresa arrepentimientos o reflexiones sobre eventos pasados que ya no pueden cambiarse. Se usa mucho en los debates sobre el clima para expresar las consecuencias de acciones no tomadas.
- Estructura : *If + sujeto + had + participio, sujeto + would have + participio*
- Ejemplo : *If we had acted sooner, we would have avoided the worst effects of climate change.*
- Ejemplo : *If governments had invested in renewables earlier, emissions would have been lower.*
- Ejemplo : *Had deforestation been prevented, biodiversity would have been better preserved.*
