Tone and voice in Spanish writing depend on the audience and intention. The formal register uses "usted" and complex structures: Le agradecería que considerara nuestra propuesta (I would be grateful if you would consider our proposal). The informal register uses "tú" and direct sentences: Mira, piénsalo bien (Look, think it over). Written irony in Spanish is subtle: Qué maravilloso que nadie haya leído el informe (How wonderful that nobody read the report). Adapting tone to the reader requires adjusting vocabulary, sentence length, and politeness formulas. Coherencia (consistency) of tone is essential: mixing registers disorients the reader. Transmitir (conveying) the right intención (intention) requires choosing each word carefully. Adaptación (adaptation) of style demonstrates advanced mastery of written communication.
