Managing a conflict in Spanish
The structure Ojalá + subjunctive expresses a wish or regret, very useful for conflict resolution.
- Ojalá + present subjunctive (achievable wish):
*Ojalá podamos resolverlo.* — I hope we can resolve it.
- Ojalá + imperfect subjunctive (unlikely wish):
*Ojalá pudiéramos hablar con calma.* — If only we could talk calmly.
- Ojalá + pluperfect subjunctive (regret about the past):
*Ojalá no hubieras dicho eso.* — If only you hadn't said that.
For conflict mediation, combine these structures with empathetic expressions:
- *Entiendo tu punto de vista, pero...*
- *Lamento que haya habido un malentendido.*
- *¿Podríamos buscar un compromiso?*
