To report what others said when dealing with travel problems, you use reported speech:

Me dijo que... (He/she told me that...) — reporting a statement
Le preguntó si... (He/she asked if...) — reporting a question
Dijeron que el vuelo fue cancelado. (They said the flight was cancelled.)

*La recepcionista me dijo que mi reserva no existía.*
(The receptionist told me my reservation didn't exist.)
*Le pregunté si podían darme otra habitación.*
(I asked if they could give me another room.)

Changes in reported speech:

Present → Imperfect: *dice → dijo que era...*
Future → Conditional: *será → sería...*
This → That: *este → ese/aquel*

Useful phrase in emergencies:

*Necesito llamar a mi embajada.* (I need to call my embassy.)

In past reported speech, the present becomes past

No que before si in indirect questions

Future becomes conditional in past reported speech
~~Necesito llamar a la embajada mía~~
Necesito llamar a mi embajada
The possessive precedes the noun: mi embajada
~~Me dice que fue cancelado (past)~~
Me dijo que fue cancelado
If the saying is in the past, use dijo, not dice
