Numbers 0-100
Portuguese numbers have some key features to remember:
- 1 and 2 have masculine and feminine forms: um/uma, dois/duas
- Numbers from 1-20 have unique forms
- From 21 onwards, use e (and): vinte e um (21)
💬 Example: "Tenho vinte e cinco anos." → "I am twenty-five years old."
Age with "Ter" (To Have)
In Portuguese, you express age using ter (to have), NOT ser (to be):
- Eu tenho 20 anos → I am 20 years old (literally: "I have 20 years")
- Quantos anos tens? → How old are you?
💬 Example: "Ela tem trinta anos." → "She is thirty years old."
This is different from English but similar to French, Spanish, and Italian. Never use "ser" for age!

자주 하는 실수
Eu sou 25 anosEu tenho 25 anosIn Portuguese, you HAVE age, you don't BE age. Use ter, not ser.
Dois meninasDuas meninasTwo is duas for feminine nouns (meninas) and dois for masculine.
Vinte-umVinte e umAlways use e (and) between tens and units: vinte e um.
Cem e umCento e umCem means exactly 100. For 101+, use cento: cento e um.
Um café e um águaUm café e uma águaÁgua is feminine — use uma, not um.
