Talking About Online Life
The internet and social media are a huge part of daily life. This lesson introduces three grammar patterns that help you describe online activities and explain purposes.
名詞修飾（めいししゅうしょく） — Noun Modification
In Japanese, entire clauses can modify a noun by placing them directly before it. This is essential for describing things in detail.
友達（ともだち）が投稿（とうこう）した動画（どうが） — The video that my friend posted 毎日（まいにち）使（つか）っているアプリ — The app I use every day
～という (Called..., that says...)
This pattern is used to name, quote, or explain something. It connects a name or description to a noun.
「インスタ」というSNSを使（つか）っています。 — I use a social media platform called Instagram. 個人情報（こじんじょうほう）が危（あぶ）ないという話（はなし）を聞（き）きました。 — I heard a story that says personal information is at risk.
～ために (In order to / Because of)
This pattern expresses purpose (with volitional verbs) or cause (with non-volitional states).
情報（じょうほう）を集（あつ）めるためにSNSを使（つか）います。 — I use social media in order to gather information. 通知（つうち）が多（おお）いために集中（しゅうちゅう）できません。 — I cannot concentrate because of too many notifications.

자주 하는 실수
友達が投稿の動画友達（ともだち）が投稿（とうこう）した動画（どうが）Noun modification requires a verb clause before the noun — use the past tense した, not the noun 投稿 directly with の
インスタと言うSNSインスタというSNSという is a fixed grammatical expression written in hiragana, not as the kanji 言う which means to physically say
情報を集めるのためにSNSを使います情報（じょうほう）を集（あつ）めるためにSNSを使（つか）いますために connects directly to the dictionary form of the verb — do not insert の between the verb and ために
毎日使うのアプリ毎日（まいにち）使（つか）っているアプリIn noun modification clauses, use the verb directly before the noun without の, and use ている for habitual actions
通知が多いだからために集中できない通知（つうち）が多（おお）いために集中（しゅうちゅう）できませんDo not combine だから and ために — use only one causal expression, and use polite form できません
