Casual vs Polite Writing
In Japanese text messages, people often drop the polite endings to sound friendly:
Polite → Casual
- ありがとうございます → ありがとう (thank you)
- ごめんなさい → ごめん (sorry)
- だいじょうぶですか → だいじょうぶ？ (are you okay?)
- わかりました → りょうかい (understood)
Common Messaging Expressions
Texting in Japanese uses many short, casual phrases:
- おけ → OK (very casual, like "k")
- りょうかい → Got it / Roger
- おつかれ → Good work / Thanks for your effort
- またね → See you later
- よろしく → Thanks in advance / Please and thanks
Emoji and symbols
Japanese texting loves emoji and kaomoji (text faces):
- (笑) or w → LOL / haha
- ！ → Used often for enthusiasm

メール おくりますメールを おくりますDon't forget を between the object (メール) and the verb

りょかいりょうかいIt's りょうかい (with う), not りょかい — don't drop the long vowel
