Suggesting and organizing an outing

Suggesting with "Che ne dici di...?"

The most common formula for making a suggestion:

"Che ne dici di andare al cinema?" *(What do you think about going to the cinema?)*

"Che ne dici di mangiare una pizza?" *(What do you think about eating a pizza?)*

Other ways to suggest:

• "Andiamo al parco?" *(Shall we go to the park?)*
• "Vuoi venire con me?" *(Do you want to come with me?)*
• "Ti va di uscire stasera?" *(Do you feel like going out tonight?)*
• "Perché non andiamo al mare?" *(Why don't we go to the sea?)*

Making arrangements

• A che ora ci vediamo? → Alle tre / Verso le cinque. (At three / Around five.)
• Dove ci troviamo? → Al bar / Davanti al cinema / A casa mia. (At the bar / In front of the cinema / At my place.)
• Chi viene? → Vengono anche Marco e Lucia. (Marco and Lucia are coming too.)

Accepting or declining

Accepting:

• "Volentieri!" *(Gladly!)*
• "Buona idea!" *(Good idea!)*
• "Perfetto, ci sto!" *(Perfect, I'm in!)*
• "Sì, mi piacerebbe molto." *(Yes, I'd like that very much.)*

Declining politely:

• "Mi dispiace, non posso." *(I'm sorry, I can't.)*
• "Purtroppo ho un altro impegno." *(Unfortunately I have other plans.)*
• "Magari la prossima volta." *(Maybe next time.)*

Informal future with the present tense

In spoken Italian, the present tense is often used for future plans:

"Domani andiamo al cinema." *(Tomorrow we're going to the cinema.)*

"Sabato ci vediamo alle tre." *(Saturday we'll meet at three.)*

💬 Example: "Che ne dici di vederci sabato verso le tre? Ci troviamo al bar del centro." *(What do you say we meet Saturday around three? We'll meet at the bar in the center.)*
