There is / There are — 장소를 설명하기
어떤 곳에 무엇이 있다고 말할 때는 there is와 there are를 써요.
There is → 단수 또는 셀 수 없는 명사
- There is a park near my house. → 집 근처에 공원이 있어요.
- There is a lovely bakery on the corner. → 모퉁이에 괜찮은 빵집이 있어요.
- There is a lot of traffic in the morning. → 아침에는 차가 많아요.
There are → 복수
- There are two pharmacies in my neighbourhood. → 우리 동네에는 약국이 두 곳 있어요.
- There are lots of cafés and restaurants nearby. → 근처에 카페와 식당이 많아요.
부정문과 의문문
- There isn't a post office nearby. → 근처에 우체국이 없어요.
- There aren't many parks in the city centre. → 도심에는 공원이 많지 않아요.
- Is there a library near here? → 이 근처에 도서관이 있어요?
- Are there any good restaurants nearby? → 근처에 괜찮은 식당이 있어요?
팁: 한국어는 '있어요' 하나로 단수와 복수를 다 말하지만, 영어는 뒤에 오는 명사의 수에 따라 is와 are를 골라야 해요. 질문에서는 some 대신 any를 써요.
