Dutch advertising language uses specific persuasive techniques to influence consumer behavior. At C1 level, understanding these strategies helps you both analyze and resist manipulation.
Legal loopholes allow vague claims: *wellicht de beste koffie* (perhaps the best coffee).
Playing on emotions: *Inspelen op* emotions is the core advertising strategy.
Persuasive structures:
- Imperatives: *Koop nu!* (Buy now!), *Bel vandaag nog!* (Call today!)
- Rhetorical questions: *Waarom zou u meer betalen?* (Why would you pay more?)
More than a million Dutch people already chose...)
Hidden manipulation: Watch for *slechts* (only/merely), *al vanaf* (starting from just), *tot wel* (up to), and *gratis* (*free*) — these frame prices and offers persuasively.
Developing critical reading skills for advertising is essential for navigating Dutch media at an advanced level.
