Comparing Cultures with "Terwijl" and Contrast Words

Terwijl (while/whereas) is a key conjunction for expressing cultural contrasts. It introduces a subclause with SOV word order.

Terwijl for Contrast

In Nederland geef je een hand, terwijl je in Japan buigt.
Nederlanders zijn heel direct, terwijl Belgen diplomatieker zijn.

Word Order After Terwijl

Terwijl introduces a subclause → verb goes to the end:

...terwijl je in andere landen anders doet. (SOV)
