To describe your neighbourhood, combine er with prepositions. *Er is een park in de buurt* (There is a park nearby). Use location words: naast (next to), tegenover (opposite), op de hoek (on the corner). *De bakker is naast de apotheek* (The bakery is next to the pharmacy). When er replaces a location already mentioned, it moves: *In mijn buurt? Er is een supermarkt* becomes more natural than repeating the location. Use er + naartoe for direction: *Ga je er vaak naartoe?* (Do you go there often?). Dutch neighbourhoods often have a bakker, slager (butcher), and kaaswinkel (cheese shop) — very typical!
